VFW  Matthew R. Henningan Post 12101 proudly partners with:

17th Sustainment Brigade — Nevada National Guard

While the 17th Sustainment Brigade was on a recent deployment to the Middle East, VFW Post 12101 conducted a "Stocking stuffing" event at Sierra Vista High School in Las Vegas. Post members donated non-perishable treats and personal care items.  Items were evenly distributed in Christmas style stockings and shipped to the unit in the Middle East.

Who is the 17thSustainment Brigade?

                                                                                         

The 17th Sustainment Brigade (17th SB) is a U.S. Army National Guard sustainment brigade headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada, part of the Nevada Army National Guard

. It was activated in 2011 to command-and-control sustainment functional logistics battalions, human resources, and financial management units, and to provide logistical support to joint, interagency, and multinational forces

Mission and Role

The brigade’s mission includes:

·       Command and control of sustainment battalions and support companies.

·       Theater distribution and redeployment operations.

·       Logistics, transportation, maintenance, and medical support for deployed forces.

·       Support to civilian agencies when directed

It is a key component of the 1st Theater Sustainment Command and has served as the largest and most diverse brigade in the 1st TSC’s Task Force Warrior

Recent Deployments and Operations

Middle East Deployment (2026): The 17th SB returned from a 9-month rotation in the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility, operating in 21 countries. It completed over 300 missions and supported large-scale multinational exercises in 13 countries

Training for Deployment: In 2024, the brigade conducted intensive training at Fort Cavazos, Texas, with units from the 34th Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade and other commands to prepare for overseas operations

·       757th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion

·       72nd Military Police Company

·       100th Quartermaster Company

·       240th Engineer Company

·       593rd & 1864th Transportation Companies

·       3665th Ordnance Company (EOD)

Recent Enhancements

321st Signal Company activated in December 2025 to provide communications support, enhancing the brigade’s ability to coordinate missions and sustain operations

Command

Current Commander: COL Joseph Claros, a veteran with deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, South Korea, and the Middle East

Significance

The 17th SB is recognized as a "heavy lift” sustainment unit for the Army, providing critical logistical backbone to deployed forces and earning praise from senior leaders for its adaptabPost will send Christmas stockings to 270 deployed members of 17 SB.
